My work at Fielmann
Employment period: April 2017 - October 2019
At Fielmann, I was part of the digitalization initiative from April 2017 to October 2019. My focus as full-stack software engineer was mainly on backend systems and web-based frontends for internal and customer facing software. We worked in agile, self organized, cross-functional and international teams in a test and domain driven manner living the DevOps sprit of "You build it, you run it".
Our ways of working included refinements, sprint plannings, retrospecitves and other typically agile tasks. Open communication and improving our routines played a key part in our success.
Two of my projects I worked on:
- Contact lenses service: This was the first, already ongoing project I worked on at Fielmann. The service allowed customers to buy contact lenses in an omni-channel way, either in a store or from home via web or app.
- Fielmann account: In this project, we provided a single user account to customers allowing them to access all digital services provided by Fielmann in a unified way. One sub-focus was on integrating legacy systems into a modern cloud-based environment.
I also participated in Strategic Design (in the sense of Domain Driven Design by Eric Evans) to layout parts of the overall system architecture, defining bounded contexts and team responsibilities of the digitalization initiative.
Besides developmental work, I participated in the recruiting process by having interviews with applicants. I also helped to onboard new colleagues and team members in both technical and organizational aspects.
